While the name sounds innocuous enough, Project 2025, is a profound threat to the nation we Democrats love. Assembled by a large cadre of former Trump administration officials and other extremists, Project 2025 is a detailed plan for remaking American government if Trump is elected. The aim is to make massive and immediate changes during the transition period.
While Trump has tried to distance himself from Project 2025, his fingerprints are all over it. Paul Dans, former chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) during the Trump administration, serves as the director of the 2025 Presidential Transition Project. Spencer Chretien, former special assistant to the President Trump and associate director of Presidential Personnel, serves as associate director.
The plan was funded and supported by the Heritage Foundation and other right-wing groups.
Besides calling for the elimination of the Federal Department of Education, the Project 2025 plan reflects the prevailing hatred of the FBI as well as the entire Justice Department by Trump supporters. It calls for hiring more political appointees to oversee each Federal agency, with all decisions having to be vetted by the White House.
Millions of immigrants would be deported, with no thought given to its impact on the economy and immigrant families.
One of the most blatant attacks on good government is found in Project 2025 plans for the U.S. Census: “Strong political leadership is needed to increase efficiency and align the Census Bureau’s mission with conservative principles.”
Even the National Weather Service does not escape the plan: “Focus the NWS on Commercial Operations,” proclaims the Project. That means citizens would have to pay fees to private companies for weather forecasts. The more than 1,000-page document can be located on-line at www.project 2025.
The Democratic Party of Hot Spring County calls upon all citizens who love America and wish to save our democracy to reject Plan 2025 by voting against Trump. If you would like to help, contact the local Party at 479-422-6493 or P.O. Box 1311, Malvern, AR 72104.
